W-O-W!

I am often impressed with the amount of creativity that exists in the world, but this stopped me dead in my tracks. I understand that not everyone might not be as impressed with this idea as I am, but you can’t deny it’s pretty ingenious.

(found here)

There really are a million things you could do with these as frames, but I’m picturing them as chalkboards. I’m just impressed someone came up with the idea in the first place. Take from it what you may, but in my book creativity is priceless.

Cheers to a vintage life well lived.

Vintage scarf turned pillow

Do you remember the post I wrote a while back about all the fun things you could do/make from vintage scarves? Well, as I was reading one of my favorite blogs, look what I found…

(Check out the full blog post here)

It’s a vintage Gucci silk scarf sewn into a pillow!!! How clever and cool all rolled up into one. Although we don’t have any Gucci scarves in the store (at least I don’t think so – maybe I should go take another look through our stash;), we do have loads and loads of beautiful silk scarves ready to be repurposed. And for all you “make your own gift” givers, this is a great last minute (and inexpensive) gift idea.

And if you’re not in a crafting mood this holiday (or if you just don’t know how to use your sewing machine, like me;), scarves are beautiful and handy to give as is. You really can’t go wrong. Ahhh, the beauty and versatility of the scarf.

Cheers to a vintage life well lived.

Paint by numbers

I have a serious addiction to vintage art in general, but have also developed quite the collection of paint by numbers. I currently have 8 vintage paint by numbers and I’m sure the collection will continue to grow.

(All images found here)

I’m very much attracted to the color blocked, graphic nature of a paint by number and the themes are pretty fantastic as well. I love animal portraits, pastoral scenes, ocean and boat scenes and of course the florals. Does anyone else share my obsession?

We have a few in the store along with other fantastically amazing vintage artwork. Come take a look and maybe find some great gift ideas as well.

Cheers to a vintage life well lived!

An Ode to Color…Green and Gold

And in celebration of the holiday season, I'm in the mood for a little green and gold…

But gold and brassy tones are not just for the holidays…they're fantastic year round.

(I didn't have much time this week for blog surfing, so all of the pretty images came from Pinterest)

Oh, that green dresser with the gold knobs is killing me.  I think I may need a green dresser in my life, or maybe some green walls.  I have PLENTY of gold/brass details in my house, but almost no green (aside from plants).

We have loads of brass/gold and green in the store in the form of candle holders, pottery, mirrors, and various other fun accents.  Come take a look!  It's a pretty fun place, if I do say so myself;)

Cheers to a vintage life well lived.

Some holiday inspiration…

Has it really been a week since we last spoke?  I guess I could blame it on the business of the holiday season, but that would just be an excuse.  Anyhow, I'm here now and wanted to share some holiday inspiration I found in the abyss of blogs I seem to spend way too much time on.  From the Right Bank is my go to blog for hard core design inspiration of all sorts, so imagine how excited I was to stumble upon this gem of a home.

I've always loved the clean sensibility of danish design, be it furniture and full interiors.  And my favorite holiday decorations include a lot of natural elements infused with some vintage holiday spirit, so this home it just perfect.

Enjoy the spirit of the holiday season and aim to make it the spirit of your life lived year round.

Cheers to a vintage life well lived.

How clever

Just wanted to leave y’all with one more crafty idea appropriate for the now official holiday season!  Well, since you know we are passionate about vintage books, this project will come of no surprise.  And although it makes the book difficult to read, it sure is a clever idea.

(details here)

Wouldn’t it look great holding some vintage christmas cards or old christmas photos.  I think that sweet paul is my new best friend (although he doesn’t realize it yet).   How clever.  And we have loads of vintage books in the store.

We’re open later today for the Holiday Walk…1-9pm.  And then we’re back to our regular hours tomorrow (10-5).

Cheers to a vintage life well lived.

Sweet Paul

As I mentioned in my previous post, this year I’m redefining my holiday decorations and have been on a quest for inspiration.  My quest has not been fruitful…until today.  I know it’s not even Thanksgiving yet, but I’m a planner and am always thinking a million light years ahead of what is necessary.  Today I discovered the most brilliant and inspiring e-magazine, and I wanted to share it with you.

Sweet Paul is a lifestyle blog and e-magazine that offers ideas for elegant and simple meals, pure and simple DIY home decor and features various other artist in all mediums from hat making to card crafting and everything in between.  But most importantly, the latest issue is his holiday issue and it is simply beautiful and left me motivated and inspired…my favorite combo.  Anything handmade makes my heart skip a beat.

I think the reason I find this magazine so special is the way it celebrates the handmade, the tangible and real sense of design and especially of the holiday season.  The holidays are a celebration of family, quiet time, homemade goods, love and nature.  All things that make us feel alive and real.

So, take a look at Sweet Paul‘s holiday issue (and all the back issues as well).  It’s like chicken soup for the soul.

Cheers to a vintage life well lived.

New Ideas for outdoor decor

For the past few weekends the weather has been fairly decent, which means it would have been smart of me to get a head start on the outdoor decorations for the holiday season.  The only problem is that we have this family unspoken rule that we don’t bring out any holiday decorations until after turkey day.  So, the wait continues, which isn’t all half bad since I’m not sure what I want to do with the outside this year anyhow.  So I’ve been browsing pinterest for inspiration…

Of course, this entry way is BEAUTIFUL, but really, who has the time.  And we all know this was most likely a catalog shot perfectly styled for some big box store.  But still, it’s beautiful…and dreamy.

But part of me just wants to be simple and green.  Something like this…

But since I don’t have a beautiful (and clean;) white front door, my entryway will probably end up something more like this, sans ribbon…

Either way, the outdoor decorations will happen, and all will be right in the world once again.  But until then, I will continue to stress about the obviously very important things in life…decorations;).  So if any of you are creative nellies and want to share your holiday decor secrets, spill away.  I could use a little “outside the box” inspiration.

Cheers to a vintage life well lived.

Everyone loves a good book

I’ve made it my mission this year to celebrate the season of gift giving by putting a little more thought into finding fantastic gifts unique to each person on my list.
We all have a reader in the family who just loves and appreciates the classics. Look at these beauties.
